(More customer reviews)This is a great product for kids around 2years of age, or if your child has already mastered sleeping mostly in one direction and with a pillow. My twins were just over two when they started being able to freely jump over the crib railing and so I needed to switch them into big boys and girls beds. Couple of months before (at first signs of them wanting to put a leg over the rail) I had preemptively started training them to sleep in one direction in the cribs by putting a pillow at one end and emphasizing that this is how mommy & daddy sleep, ect. The difficulty for us was to find the right rail to fit the big beds we already had for them - daybeds. Most of the 'hard' rails on the market would not fit since the daybeds have a wooden frame and the mattress is slightly sunken in. When I saw this product and read the reviews, I knew it was the one to try, and could hardly wait to get it in the mail. We got the pink one for my daughter and the denim for my son. The kids were so excited about their new beds and since the product arrived on a Friday, we made the move that very weekend. It took two nights, but by Monday they got the feel for it. It has been 3 months now and we LOVE these bedrails. It's true that they 'shift', but we found that since the twins already were sleeping in one direction just the feeling that there is 'something' there at the edge was enough for them to remain inside the beds. This product also has helped them to learn to sleep with a cover on (never did get the concept in the cribs). I have attached the bedrails over their bedcovers so that it keeps the bed covers down - this helps with keeping the kids in the beds, but also when they toss&turn the cover does not turn with them. This was not something I expected but is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. And finally, aesthetically because of the color choices and the shape (kind of like a pillow) these bedrails are so much more pleasant to look at in a child's room than a rigid bedrail.
We are very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to any parent, with the caveat of having to 'teach' your child the basic skills for sleeping in one direction prior to moving them into a big boy/girl bed.

Safety 1st Secure Top Bed Rail Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this rail for use while bedsharing with my baby. I know this is not the intended use...but it works great. Unlike many of the more expensive rails out there, this one will work with any size bed. We have a king size pillowtop mattress and it works great for us. The thing that makes this rail so awesome for us is that there is no gap between the rail and our mattress. My baby can't get trapped between the mattress and rail because there is a lip on the rail that extends onto our mattress.

This rail is sturdy and has a great price. I've already been recommending it to people!

(More customer reviews)This review is for both Sleep Tite Extra long and another comparable model, Hide Away Extra Long, of same brand. I am currently using both models so I can compare these two with each other.

What's in common?

Overall both are in good quality and solid enough for their purpose. The extra long length is a big advantage for my sleep-mobile kids. They don't just roll sideways. These rails are the longest ones I can find on market. They look very similar and basically have same mechanism for installation. Once installed properly, there is no gap(at least no gap that wide enough to be considered dangerous)between the rail and mattress. I use one for each of my girls. They are both serious rollers and more than often they lean against the rail and put their faces against the mesh. No suffocation worries. I know it's not for co-sleep but I use it for co-sleep with my younger daughter anyway. Don't see any issue.

What's different?

Portability: I ordered the Hide Away(HA) model first for my older daughter and liked it. So when my younger daughter refused to go back to her crib to sleep, I ordered another for co-sleeping. This time I tried Sleep-Tite(ST). The first thing I noticed is ST is much lighter than HA. Besides the top rail of ST can be folded in half, unlike the HA, which has just one solid steel rod. So if I need one for travel, I will definitely get ST because the HA is not really portable by its design and weight.

Installation: The manuals are very detailed and helpful. ST is easier to install than HA because the fabric are put on differently. If you look at the pictures closely, you will see the top part of the HA is round cornered one-piece but in HA, there are two connecting pieces for top rail and side rail.In HA, I had to really squeeze the fabric to put on the rail along the turns. For ST it's easy because you can put on the mesh then bend the top and side rails to position.

Sturdiness: Both are sturdy enough as I can tell. However, if I rock the rail hard, the ST is more wobbly because the folding mechanism. The HA is one piece of solid panel that barely moves. I use HA for my older daughter's bed. She would grab the rail when she tries to climb up to her bed (which I don't recommend your kid doing) and the rail support her very well. So you can tell it's pretty sturdy.

Something interesting about the folding mechanism on ST: The hinge(or knot) in the middle of the top rail is protected with some sort of cushion. I guess it's to prevent children hitting on it since it's protruding and hard. It serves the purpose well. However, combined with the type of fabric they use, it is very "crunchy" and make noises when baby scratch it. It attracts my little girl to scratch more. So depend how you look at it, it's entertaining (for baby) and annoying (in the middle of night). I don't find myself bothered at all. Just funny.

My complaints:

The only thing bothers me is how the rail drops down. I first thought the push-in-under-mattress is a good idea in HA. However, it's very hard to do and run into the risk of ripping the bottom of mattress. I don't really need the "Hide-Away" feature since who cares if the bed is not picture perfect in a house with young kids. However, I do need the rail to be dropped down completely that I can sit on the edge comfortably for bedtime story. The problem is the "hinge" of the rail is at the level of the bottom of mattress. And the rail is pretty tall(a good safety feature though). So you need certain height of the bed to accommodate the whole piece. In my case, the rail would drop to floor at an angle that I couldn't sit on the bed without some hopping. It's not a problem on our adult-sized bed though.

Another thing is I can't drop the rail with one shot. I have to go to the left to disengage the pin then go to the right to disengage the other pin before I can drop the rail. I am 5'4" with not so long arms. I guess it's a trade-off of getting an extra long rail.

In summary, both are good quality products I trust to put on kid's bed. If you need something for travel, use Sleep-Tite. If you don't plan to take it away, use Hide Away since it's more solid.

Fits very well (and we actually have a pillow top mattress that's a tad taller than the specs they give but it works just fine) and does exactly what they say it does. We use it co-sleeping with a 9 month old to keep her from falling out of the bed.

(More customer reviews)This product worked great for our 2 1/2 year old on vacation!!!We purchased 2 so we could have one for each side, however when we arrived at our hotel the bed was already against the wall so we only needed to use one.The quality of the vinyl is super tough---can't imagine it ever ripping or tearing especially with the cover on it.The pump it came with was super easy to use---my daughter thought it was great fun to help pump it up!We placed it about 2 feet in on the bed--it does push a litte but not enough to come off the bed,for our comfort sake we just pushed in in 2 feet---she doesn't need the whole queen bed!! Mom and Dad finally slept great in a hotel not having to worry about her rolling out of bed.

(More customer reviews)We've had this bed rail for about two months now for our 3 1/2 year old on his full size "big boy bed".We're quite satisfied with it.

Construction:Very sturdy, our son jumps on his bed and rolls around and the bed rail stays put and does not seem like it could possibly give way.The mesh is soft which is good for the times when he wedges himself in the corner to sleep.We tug on it from time to time and it's not going anywhere.

Assembly:Not too easy, the instructions are horrible, but once you realize on your own how it's supposed to go, the actual assembly is OK, but not quick.Very easy to adjust the width to your bed with the simple strap feature.

Hide away feature:This is what took away the 5th star.It's not very easy to unlock and push it under the bed. That feature works but requires some wrangling.If you want the hide away feature for once in a while, I wouldn't let that stop you from buying it, if you plan to hide the rail daily, I don't recommend it for that.

Making the bed:Easy to tuck the sheets around it, no need to hide away or struggle.

Overall, I would highly recommend this bed rail, I read all the reviews, and asked many friends, and this seemed to be the best in all areas, and a good value for the price, considering other can be well over $xx.
